Janel Anderson

Janel Anderson is a dissertator in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Janel is a mixed-methods researcher whose work investigates how teachers’ working conditions, education policy, and evolving community expectations impact teacher effectiveness. Her dissertation focuses on the caregiving labor in teachers’ work and the contexts in which they do it. Janel’s work is designed to improve teacher retention and student outcomes through reforms that nourish strong, non-oppressive schools while helping recruit and retain remarkable teachers.
Before becoming an education researcher, Janel was an award-winning high school teacher for 19 years. Her notable awards include the Barbara S. and Glenn T. Thompson Graduate Award, Kohl Excellence in Teaching Fellowship, Fulbright-Hays Award (Morocco), Cuban Cultural Exchange Fellowship- Tulane University, and the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) Global Classrooms Award. Janel works under the mentorship of Carolyn Kelley.
